Choose to fly!

I recently finished a quilt for a Parkinson's Fundraiser that will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research that is going to be held at my church. I titled it "Choose to fly! based on the birds that are trapped in the cubes. Isaiah 40:31 promises that God will lift us up on wings like eagles but we need to choose to allow God in our life to do that. The upper right cubes are a bird that is on it's way to flying away from being held back. I hope you like it.

Tax time makes me crazy

I have ignored this blogging thing for such a long time, it seems pointless but I shall attempt to take a little time to do it again. I am trying to prepare the tax form schedule C and it isn't as simple as I would wish since the supplies don't count until you actually use them or sell them. Hmmm.... to do the right thing requires using those little grey cells but one must always strive to do the right thing.
Here is a photo of a recent quilt I made under commission for a memorial quilt for a set of twin boys. It is called "Being transformed by Shekinah Glory"

Old Viscount

Went for my usual walk

(begining to be usual as I attempt to decrease flab) and what do you suppose I found? Brian was with me and he helped me drag it out of the woods by the bike path. Someone carefully placed it right side up, this sewing machine cabinet, next to a water main blow off. Really weird. I wanted it but what would I do with it? The veneer was in bad shape and the machine obviously doesn't work and besides Jim would kill me if I brought it home. It was so tempting because it is old, but not old enough to have value. So we placed it beside the telephone pole and I guarantee it will be gone before the day is up. I wonder what the story is behind this one? hmm...

Flashing can be fun

Here is the quilt I call Turtle Bay at Night "moms doing her job". It is interesting how using a flash will make such a difference in the apparent coloring that shows. It was a fun quilt to do and I had to get it out of my system since it had been on my brain for quite a while to use the technique. Hopefully the professional photographer can get a better pic of it. But perhaps it just isn't worthy of being photographed. it is dark but that is because of the way it is created. Shiva paintsticks on quilted fabric. Fun stuff, kind of smelly since it is oil based.

This is a quilt I designed and made recently. It was for a wedding gift. If I had it to do all over I would work harder to find fabrics that transitioned better from lights to darks. I only buy fabric where I work because I get a wonderful discount. I am to cheap therefore to go elsewhere and B4Q has such a nice selection but I should have tried harder to get a better blend. Next time.
On the business front. I have downloaded the free Quickbooks. It is very basic and should do an okay job for a little while. It only handles 20 customers though so it won't last long and I will have to upgrade... That is how they get you. Also, have recieved my Brevard County application for Business Tax Reciept. Problem is, you have to renew in September so when I pay the yearly fee it is only good for 2 months, now doesn't that stink! Perhaps I will wait until September since I am not going to actually make any money until October anyway. That is the goal. Have my art on cards by October 24th.

What is in a name?

In the pursuit of starting ones own company, one of the first steps is to have a name. I have determined that there is not another company with the name I want registered in the state of Florida. Looks like it is pretty easy by internet to register your name so I am going to do that. For a small fee of course. The website is www.sunbiz.org. Of course that is for ficticious names. I don't yet get the point of doing this since you must still file articles of incorporation or whatever type of company you set up but never the less, maybe it will become apparent at a future date.

Tomorrow I teach class and work, ahh the college fund is building penny by penny. (For my son who is going to Ringling College in the fall... so esspensive!)

what a day, what a day

I don't get why I need a title every day to blog, that is going to take some thinking. Today I experienced a bad headache for the second day in a row while at work at Boutique 4 Quilters. I am beginning to think my husband is right and that I may be alergic to fabric. I think it may be an answer to his prayers. Ack! this is not a good thing. I have determined I must get alergy tests to make sure such is not the case, that would be a disaster! So I went home 2 hours early thanks to my lovely boss. Of course by the time I got home, the Excedrin for migraines had kicked in with gusto and since I had "extra" time on my hands I went ahead and made a little bitty project that I had been wanting to make. It is a composition notebook journal cover. Pattern by Debbie Hogan of Melbourne Beach with a little Maria twist. It is for a friend of mine who loves coffee. I saw the fabric and had to get it to make something for her. The cover only took 2 hours to make, the next one I do will certainly go much faster. I should have worked on setting up my business but this was unexpected extra time so I thought I would have a little fun. I hope she likes it.
